Over the next four decades, the Twin Otter became Blaine's trusty steed, carrying him from the vast expanses of the Canadian north to diverse destinations like the USA, the US Virgin Islands, the Maldives, Croatia, and Saudi Arabia. When we last talked, I was cooling my heels at my small hotel in Bang Saray, Thailand, waiting and wanting for another job after being laid off from Island Aviation Services (IASL), Seaplane divi-
sion, during COVID. They had canceled my contract a few months later, and I did not expect to return.
In my first book, I mentioned that IASL’s marketing division was inept, indifferent to whether the company gained more resorts or stayed busy. They had government jobs, were comfortable in their
air-conditioned offices, drinking coffee, and cashing their weekly cheques....

The sky was dark with storm clouds. There did not seem to be a break. As I flew southeast, not getting any closer to home, I started thinking we would not have enough fuel if I didn’t find a hole soon, then I saw light to the west. Despite the rain and squall I thought this must be a lighter part of the storm. I expected that light I saw was from the sun setting in the west, so I turned toward the light and into the storm. We hit heavy rain and then a crowning fire blaze, which turned out to be the light I was heading for. I was suddenly deep into the storm’s chaos.
