About the Author:

I have lived and worked in several different countries including many parts of Canada, New York , Rhode Island, St. Croix USVI, The Maldives. Croatia, Saudi Arabia. I flew the Twin Otter Seaplane in all of those places. Many of my co-workers suggested that I write a book but I blew them all off.

In April of 2020, I was laid off from my job in the Maldives. I had just purchased a small hotel in Thailand so I moved there but COVID affected tourism there as well. I was sitting every day on my computer wondering what I should do to fill up all of the extra time I had in my hands.
I remembered all of the people who suggested I write a book and thought - why not try? I had nothing else going on.

I especially enjoyed the fact you were from the Gladstone area. My husband was in the RCMP and was stationed in Manitoba his last ten years of service - Dauphin, Amaranth and Minnedosa. I had a private pilot licence which I obtained while in Regina. Sadly, I didn’t make good use of it. Finances were an issue. Last solo flights was in Dauphin where I was able to rent a tri-pacer from the flying club owned by Harold Freeman. $12.00 an hours back then.
While we were in Amaranth we became friends with Ian Foster from Langruth. He was a flying farmer. If I remember correctly, he owned a Mooney (very large tail section). One winter he flew out to our cabin on Lake Manitoba (on skis). He froze to the ice and we had a heck of a time rocking him loose.
I’m 89 mow but still look up every time I hear a plane.
I’ve been lucky to hitch the odd ride once in awhile and am overwhelmed by the new technology for navigating now. Sure would make life easier. Navigating wasn’t my strong point. Happily, most of my flying was on the prairies and I could buz the elevators to see where I was.
Thanks for writing your book. Very interesting.

I'd love to read it, but it's a gift for my grandson who is learning to fly.

I have not read it yet. It is for a gift when my boyfriend (who was a similar pilot before he retired a year ago) to read when he is recovering from surgery

Interesting read. Great to see stories of the North and the adventures of bush flying.
